Brimming with the energetic perfume of sunny days and cool, nurturing evenings, our Organic Orange Peel brings the flavor of Florida oranges to your countertop. Because this product is primarily made from the flavor-packed peel—the leathery, brightly colored part of the rind—the orange essence it delivers is surprisingly deep and oily. The peel, also known as the zest, contains up to 2.5% volatile oils by weight when fresh. When dried, the oils concentrate and become even more pronounced, creating their deep flavor and buttery mouthfeel.

The volatile oils in orange peels, and citrus in general, are strangely potent. The dominant component in orange oil is limonene, a chemical compound that contributes heavily to classic citrus flavors and aromas. Limonene is often added to cleaning products because it is a natural solvent, and is used to dissolve oils. Because limonene is so abundant in orange oil, when undiluted, orange oil cannot be stored in plastic containers. The limonene in it will eat through the plastic, since plastic is petroleum-based. Once diluted into a neutral carrier oil, orange oils are much more stable, though prolonged exposure will often cause plastic to degrade over time. Limonene is also being examined as a potential building block to new polymers that are not reliant on fossil fuels for stability, so limonene may replace the thing it can already destroy.

Organic Orange Peel is often thought of in regards to sweets, and this zest is exceptional in cookies; add to biscotti, or make orange shortbread with citrus icing. Amp up marmalades with an extra blast of rich zest. Make orange caramel and pour over vanilla ice cream. Toss with sugar over strawberries and macerate; serve with whipped cream for a light summer dessert. Very nice! Such a nice addition to my recipes. I ordered it to make some steamed Cantonese beef balls, and discovered how versatile the spice actually was. I am using it in my smoothies and salad dressings.

Just what I needed Since starting a Keto diet I bake a lot of desert loaves. Needed orange peel for my favorite and in my opinion these are the best. Great product, I have never been disappointed.
