Sweet Curry Powder
Our salt-free Sweet Curry Powder is characterized by its enveloping sense of comfort, combining spices traditionally noted for their warmth into one cozy whole. Woodsy and earthy with fragrant cinnamon and nutmeg and pungent with the musky lemon of cardamom, Sweet Curry Powder gets a bit of smoke from cumin and a bit of maple-like sweetness from fenugreek seed. Bright coriander dances around the top notes of this blend with its gentle touches of peppery citrus, rounding out the deeper flavors from the other spices. This salt-free blend has none of the fiery spice that is often associated with curry powder; rather, it is sweet and inviting, and packed with flavor from top to bottom. To provide the freshest flavor possible, we mix our Sweet Curry Powder by hand in small batches in our facility.
While curry powder is traditionally considered an Indian spice blend, its foundation is based in British imperialism. When British soldiers, once stationed in India, returned to England, they brought with them their new-found love of richly seasoned, spice-laden food. Curry powders came into being so British households could approximate the dishes the soldiers had come to love during the time of the Raj. Home cooks in Britain were unfamiliar with the flavors and fragrance of Indian food, so the development of pre-mixed curry blends created a welcome shortcut to a newly-introduced cuisine.
Tips From Our Kitchen
Fragrant Sweet Curry Powder goes wonderfully with tropical flavors, so use to season grilled shrimp and serve over coconut rice. Toss over cubed sweet potatoes and roast. Mix into a vinaigrette for a dazzling dressing that you can use on a chef's salad that's packed with loads of vegetables, lean meats like turkey or chicken and fresh fruit, like apples or pears. Toss with chickpeas and roast (or put in the air-fryer) until crunchy for a healthy snack. Sauté in oil or ghee for thirty seconds to let the flavors bloom, then add ingredients to make chicken curry or butternut squash bisque.
This blend is made from coriander, cinnamon, cardamom, cumin, fenugreek, and nutmeg.
