Sweet Potato Chili Fries

Sweet Potato fries can be seen to fit into one of two categories: either a treat of fancy, flashy French fries for the person with an extra dollar burning in their pocket, or sad and bland semi-health food for the person who really can’t withstand. So let’s get to brass tacks first: Are sweet potato fries “healthy”? There’s a bit of distinction that must be made first with the difference between health and nutrition. Though used interchangeably, a lot of times food can be labeled as a “healthier” alternative simply because it contains less of the “bad” stuff- calories, fat, sugar- though not necessarily contributing anything that is useful to the body. “Nutrition” is used (sometimes) to refer to the things food DOES add to the body- such as vitamins, minerals, or antioxidants. So yeah, Sweet Potato fries do have a few more calories than a normal white potato, but they also have a few added nutritional benefits that a regular potato doesn’t, such as vitamins, A, C, and E. What we’re saying is don’t let the higher calorie count scare you off- we want to show you the beauty that Sweet Potatoes Fries can have and how to bring out their best flavors.
Your next question might be “Where’s the chili?” And guess what- it’s SPRINKLED on the fries. Chef Jeff opted to use our Hill Country Chili Powder because it’s our favorite “all-rounder” in the chili powder category that’s spicy and herby, and not overly hot… if you’re looking to bump up the heat a little, the El Paso Chili Powder would be where we point you. While our Hill Country Chili Powder does have a couple of chile powders in its arsenal, but the El Paso Chili Powder has our hotter cayenne, and a distinctly smokier flavor compared to the Hill Country from its Chipotle Morita Powder.
Not crazy about cumin? Maybe try a little powdered Ginger, and swap out the chili powder for some Brewpub Garlic Fries Seasoning instead. OR you could go super fun with it, and drizzle your sweet potatoes with some vegetable oil (instead of the olive oil) and season with a little Pumpkin Pie Spice instead.
