California Toasted Onion Powder
Our Toasted Onion Powder is a modern twist on this classic ingredient and is destined to become a staple in your kitchen spice cabinet and best of all - it’ll eliminate onion tears in the kitchen! Our Toasted Onion Powder provides terrific onion aroma and flavor and is best when used in gravies, meatloaf, pork roast, sauces, stews, spice blends, spreads, soups and tuna casseroles.Our dried onions utilize a process that removes the liquid while allowing the strong flavor to remain. This is a concentrated powder as 9 pounds of raw onions are used to make 1 pound of dehydrated onions. Our toasted, dried white onions are made by gently heating US grown white onions until they turn a golden brown. Use our toasted onions in place of white onions in any recipe where you are looking for a slightly less pungent, milder onion flavor.
Not sure when and where to use onion powder, onion flakes or granulated onion?
Use onion powder when you’re looking for onion aroma and flavor, but you don’t need the typical onion texture. Onion Flakes are best when you’re seeking the flavor and aroma of onion and need some texture in your recipe. Onion granules provide an easy way to disperse onion flavor, when you don’t need the texture. Granulated onion is easier to measure than flakes and they don't cake like powdered onion sometimes can.
Add toasted onion powder directly to any dish that has enough moisture to rehydrate the onions during the cooking process. If the dish doesn’t have enough liquid then it is best to rehydrate the onions before adding to the mix. To rehydrate place the onion powder in a small bowl and add just enough water to cover the powder. Let them soak up the water for about 15 minutes and then drain off any excess liquid and add to the cooking process. Or you can also mix the powder with enough cool water in order to mix a smooth paste that can be added to the dish towards the end of cooking.
The onions used in our onion powder are grown in the US.
Onion Powder equivalent - use 1-1/3 Tablespoon of powder in place of one fresh onion.
In addition to carrying a regular onion powder, dried shallots and a top grade onion salt we also now have Roasted Minced Onion and Toasted Granulated Onion.
