Manzanillo Mexican Seasoning
Named for a resort city on Mexico’s Pacific coast, our salt-free Manzanillo Mexican Seasoning is warm and earthy. It’s got a deep fragrance that’s built upon a complex, smoky base of ancho, pasilla, and chipotle chiles, shored up by smoky, earthy cumin and aromatics like garlic and onion. Mexican oregano and coriander deliver citrusy, minty, peppery high notes, accented by the citrusy pine of black pepper. The Manzanillo Mexican Seasoning is blended in our facility, in small batches, as necessary. We do this to ensure that the blends we send out are as fresh as possible. This is hand-blended with ancho, pasilla, black pepper, garlic, chipotle, onion, coriander, Mexican oregano and cumin.
Manzanillo Mexican Seasoning is the first blend we developed after we opened for business in 2008. We worked on it in our very first test kitchen—which was, of course, the kitchen in our house—and we tested this blend extensively. Since this was our first blend we really wanted to get it right, so we tested it, and tested it, and tested it some more. We even walked away from it for a few weeks to give our taste buds and our expectations a bit of a break. We settled on the recipe this blend—a little fruity, a little smoky, a little spicy, with a smattering of spry herbs—when we believed that we managed to capture an authentic range of Mexican flavors. It’s been a constant seller for us since we released it, and we’re proud that we can put our name to this blend.
Tips From Our Kitchen
Salt-free Manzanillo Mexican Seasoning is good on almost everything Mexican; add it to refried beans, enchilada sauce, or fajitas. This is a beautiful flavor base for turkey chili and for tortilla soup. But this blend is versatile and works wonderfully across a wide range of dishes. Sprinkle across the top of scrambled eggs or bake onto the top of macaroni and cheese. It’s brilliant in sweet potato hash or grilled shrimp. Customers have told us they had great success using Manzanillo Mexican Seasoning to make a kicky three-bean salad, grilled vegetables, and London broil. This seasoning blend has strong flavors and some spicy heat. We recommend using this blend in small increments on your first use.
This blend contains Ancho chile powder, pasilla chile powder, black pepper, garlic, chipotle morita chile powder, onion, coriander, Mexican oregano and cumin.
