Grilled Turkey Burgers

Mention turkey burgers and most people might think - BLAH, bland, dried out and completely devoid of any real flavor! However, if you are looking for a healthier option for classic burgers on the grill, these turkey burgers are just the ticket. They're loaded with flavor, these delicious burgers keep fat and cholesterol in check, are juicy and are anything but BLAH and flavorless!
Some recipes add oil to the meat to add moisture, but adding a little milk to the burger will also add needed moisture. Most importantly don't overcook the burgers! They need to only be cooked until they reach an internal temperature of 160 to 165 degrees (invest in a good quality meat thermometer it is well worth the investment). Any longer absolutely necessary and they'll dry out.
We have a new grill this year - a very nice Weber gas grill and I can't seem to find enough things to grill (steak, burgers, chicken and even fruit)!
For these turkey burgers I started off by turning the grill on high to heat up the grates. After about 10 minutes I turned the grill down to medium heat, brushed the grill grates with a light coating of olive oil and carefully placed the turkey burgers on the grill. I cooked both sides about 6 minutes each. Here it's important to go with the high heat to start so that you get the signature grill marks on the burger but then the lower medium heat allows you to then cook the burger evenly throughout for a jucier finished burger.
Cooking at too high a temperature dries out the outer part of the burger while leaving the middle undercooked.
Remember turkey doesn't have to be just for Thanksgiving - fire up the grill and serve up a great tasting, healthy and juicy turkey burger!
