Ground Aleppo Pepper
Ground Aleppo Pepper, Capsicum annuum, is a medium heat ground pepper. It is also known as Aleppo pepper powder, Halaby pepper powder, or ground Aleppo chili flakes.
The Aleppo Chile is native to the region around the city of Aleppo in northern Syria. Its traditional pepper fields have been destroyed by war in that region but the seeds have been successfully planted and farmed in Turkey, making this desirable product commercially available again.
Ground Aleppo Pepper is popular with:
- Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, and fusion-style restaurants;
- cocktail bars;
- breweries and brewpubs;
- condiment, meal kit, jerky, snack, sauce, chocolate, and cocktail mix manufacturers;
- seasoning companies; and
- independent spice shops
We also have Aleppo Pepper flakes available.
Flavor Profile
Ground Aleppo Pepper has a fruity, raisin-like flavor with an undertone of earthy cumin and lemony top notes.
How to Use
Ground Aleppo Pepper is at home in savory and sweet dishes. Use Ground Aleppo Pepper in Mediterranean or Middle Eastern dishes like baba ghanoush, hummus, and kebabs; it also goes well with eggs, pasta, baked winter squash, or any tomato-based recipe.
Aleppo is an excellent chile pepper for the baker and partners extraordinarily well with cinnamon. Its acidity and heat balance perfectly with chocolate and sugar, so make it a star in brownies or hot chocolate, or toss it with cocoa, sugar, and some salt and black pepper for some amazing popcorn.
Aleppo Pepper pairs well with cinnamon, coriander, cumin, garlic, onion, chocolate, citrus fruits, Parmesan cheese, bay leaf, cilantro, parsley, and oregano.
