Food Flights
Food Flights
Long associated with beer and liquor, flights—a sampling of a single ingredient or format, presented in multiple ways—have made the jump to food. What started as a TikTok fad with an array of creatively seasoned deviled eggs has turned into a new presentation standard.
So what are the benefits of food flights?
- They encourage increased creativity from a kitchen staff
- They give diners a chance to sample more than one of a thing, which may lead them to discover a favorite dish they’ll return for
- Food flights demonstrate cross utilization, or the flexibility of a product or ingredient to be used in a variety of ways, increasing the perceived value of that ingredient
People are increasingly interested in food flights, particularly as more and more businesses create them and social media discussions center around them. Eggs may have given food flights a viral boost but you can find flights that range from cookies to sliders, and lasagna to tacos.
Our recent food flight highlights our Cinnamon Roll Seasoning, which we, of course, used for much more than cinnamon rolls. We put the Cinnamon Roll Seasoning into baklava, cream puffs, and a café mocha, all loosely inspired by Dubai chocolate. We were able to see how this blend works stirred into cream filling, baked in between layers of phyllo, mixed into a semi-savory dough, and blended into simple syrup.
If you’re looking for a way to creatively promote a seasonal or unusual product, have a new ingredient and you want to market its versatility, or are looking for ways to inspire culinary ingenuity, consider a food flight. They’re fun and pique interest, and can highlight just about any food or flavor profile you have in mind. They are only limited by imagination.
