Organic Marjoram
Organic Marjoram
Organic Marjoram, Origanum hortensis, is the dried, green, cut leaf of the marjoram plant. It is also called marjoram organic, organic sweet marjoram, bulk organic marjoram, or mardakoush.
Marjoram is closely related to and often associated with oregano, though marjoram is a bit sweeter. While it is primarily used in savory applications, marjoram can get used in desserts since it goes nicely with fruit.
Organic Marjoram is often purchased by:
- meal mix and salt manufacturers;
- brewpubs;
- pizzerias;
- food trucks;
- seasoning companies;
- catering businesses;
- bakeries;
- olive oil shops; and
- independent spice shops
We also have conventional Marjoram Leaf and Ground Marjoram available.
1 Tablespoon fresh marjoram = 1 teaspoon Organic Marjoram.
Flavor Profile
Organic Marjoram is sweet, with notes of mint and citrus and a bit of woodsy pine.
How To Use
Marjoram is affectionately called “the sausage herb” in German kitchens, so be sure to include it in your sausage spice blends. It’s delicious in chowders, stuffing, tomato-based soups and sauces, and with cabbage, pork, fish, beans, or lamb. Also try it with melon, pears, apple cakes, and custards like crème caramel. Organic Marjoram should be added toward the end of cooking time to protect its delicate flavor.
Pair Organic Marjoram with onions, garlic, thyme, lemon, fruit, paprika, chiles, sage, lavender, savory, vinegar, coriander, and dill.
Organic Marjoram is a terrific complement to food like clams, tomatoes, eggplant, pork, fish, lamb, marinades, dressings, pizza, and fruit-based desserts.
