Organic Yellow Mustard Seed
Organic Yellow Mustard Seed
Our Organic Yellow Mustard Seed is botanically called Brassica alba and is also sometimes identified as organic mustard seed, organic yellow mustard seeds, white mustard seeds, or mustard seeds organic. Mustard plants grow in the wild, and food historians believe they were first cultivated around 3,000 BC.
Yellow mustard is a flowering plant and other members of this family include black mustard, brown mustard, horseradish, and wasabi. Yellow mustard seeds contain approximately 30% essential oil by weight.
Organic Yellow Mustard Seed is frequently purchased by seasoning companies, Indian restaurants, brew pubs, food trucks, spice stores and manufacturers of sauces, fermenting and pickling seasonings, pretzels, and condiments.
Flavor Profile
Earthy and pungent with medium heat, and pungency that increased when they are ground.
How to Use
We love using ground mustard in deviled eggs, bean, cheese, pickles, ham and pork dishes, in cocktail and barbeque sauces, and in soups or chowders. Interested in making your own mustard? Two of our favorites are Porter Beer Mustard and German Style Mustard.
If you are looking to make your own mustard, it is important to know that the temperature of the liquid used when mixing is critical. For maximum heat, blend it with a very cold liquid, for a milder mustard flavor blend the powder with a hot liquid.
Mustard works well when paired with bay leaf, chili, coriander, cumin, dill, fennel, fenugreek, garlic, honey, nigella, parsley, pepper, tarragon and turmeric.
