Mitmita Spice
Mitmita Spice
Mitmita Spice, pronounced MEET-mitta, is an African-inspired, MSG-free seasoning blend. It is also known as mitmita hot chili blend, mitmita spice mix, Ethiopian spice mitmita, or mitmita seasoning.
Mitmita arose thanks to Ethiopia’s access to traders along the Silk Road, who carried Asian spices with them. People blended these spices with their preferred flavors to create a fusion blend that is well-balanced and adventurous.
Businesses interested in this blend include:
- Ethiopian and American restaurants;
- food trucks;
- sauce, marinade, snack, frozen meal, and meal subscription manufacturers;
- catering companies;
- seasoning companies; and
- independent spice shops
Flavor Profile
Mitmita Spice is has a warm, earthy flavor with sweet, citrusy top notes and a bold heat that lingers.
How To Use
Choose fiery Mitmita Spice when making Ethiopian-inspired foods, like these Spiced Red Lentils with Roasted Vegetables. It is integral to kitfo, a ground meat dish originally made with beef and spiced clarified butter. Enjoy this spicy blend in Mitmita Spiced Carrots with Whipped Feta, where the sweetness and creaminess of the dish play against the heat. Swap this in when making Awaze Sauce, tomato-rich Spinach and Egg Shakshuka, or Doro Wat, a spicy chicken stew from Ethiopia.
This blend is delicious on chicken, lentils, beans, meat, carrots, root vegetables, rice, pasta, cheese, aioli, and in handheld dishes like tacos or po’ boys.
