Organic Turmeric (TUR-mer-ick) Powder, Curcuma longa, is also called pure turmeric powder, tumeric powder, organic turmeric, or organic curcumin powder.

Turmeric is the bright yellow spice that gives mustards and Indian curries their golden hue. It has been used as a culinary spice dating back more than 3,500 years to the Vedic culture in India. Traces of garlic, ginger, and turmeric have even been found in the residue of pots from archaeological digs near New Delhi, the capital city of India, dating back to 2500 BC.

Our Organic Turmeric Powder has an essential oil of 1.0% - 6.9% and a minimum of 3% curcumin. We also have conventional Turmeric Powder available.

Organic Turmeric Powder is popular with fermenting and pickling, snack, and health and wellness manufacturers; olive oil shops; independent spice shops; seasoning companies; American, Mediterranean, and brewpub restaurants; and brewers.

Flavor Profile

Mildly sour and bitter, slightly pungent, earthy, warm and musky.

How to Use

Organic Turmeric Powder is a central ingredient in Indian and southeast Asian cooking adding not only flavor but an intense bright yellow color to masalas, potatoes, and cauliflower. It is especially delicious in curries of all kinds like this Caribbean Vegetable Curry. Add Organic Turmeric Powder to marinades for chicken or fish, or mix with yogurt, ginger, and some lime juice for a savory dipping sauce for spicy foods. It goes well with beans or lentils so stir it into fragrant Moroccan Soup, or add it to this warm kidney bean filled Rajma. For a crunchy and flavorful fermented dish, add turmeric to this Pineapple and Tumeric Sauerkraut.

Turmeric works well in combination with other herbs and spices like bay leaves, cilantro, clove, coconut, coriander, cumin, curry leaves, dill, fennel seed, galangal, ginger, lemongrass, mustard seeds, nutmeg, paprika and pepper.
