Al Pastor Taco Seasoning
Al Pastor Taco Seasoning
Al Pastor Taco Seasoning (pronounced ahl-pas-tor), is an MSG-free blend that is also called al pastor seasoning, pastor seasoning, al pastor seasoning blend, al pastor dry rub, or al pastor rub. This pungent seasoning blend is a combination of mild to medium heat chiles stirred together with aromatic herbs and spices for rich, deep flavor.
Although Al Pastor Seasoning is a Mexican blend, its background comes from Lebanon. The late 19th and early 20th century saw a large influx of Lebanese immigrants to Mexico, who brought their traditional, vertical spit-style cooking with them. Adapting to the food around them they created al pastor. Cooks coat pork in al pastor spices and let it marinate. The pork is placed on a vertical spit and slow-roasted until it is tender and delicious, and shaved off in thin slices, topped with onion, cilantro, and bits of pineapple.
This popular blend is often sought after by seasoning companies; independent spice shops; Mexican, Latin American, health food, and vegan restaurants; bars and grills; sauce, popcorn, and meal mix manufacturers; and breweries.
Flavor Profile
Al Pastor Seasoning is earthy and aromatic with warm, spicy undertones.
How To Use
You don’t need a vertical spit to successfully cook with our Al Pastor Taco Seasoning. Mix in with your favorite taco meat—including Jackfruit, if you’re meatless—and brown in some oil, with diced peppers and onions. Make succulent Pork Burritos. Toss over strips of steak and grill for top-notch Beef Fajitas. Use as a dry rub for your favorite meat; we recommend using 1 tablespoon of Al Pastor seasoning for every pound of meat. Reconstruct classic Al Pastor ingredients into a fun and easy to eat Al Pastor Kebab Salad Bowl. Make a one-pan meal by seasoning Mexican Cornbread with Al Pastor Taco Seasoning. Toss over sliced zucchini or summer squash and roast, then add the roasted vegetables to a Mexican-style pasta with poblanos, corn, and cilantro.
