Chicken Parmesan Burgers

Chicken Parmesan or Chicken Parmigiana might feel like an Italian food, but it’s just an Italian inspired food thought up by Italian immigrants in the United States. The original recipe is just as quickly recognizable to an American audience, the Eggplant Parmigiana. This recipe has been modified just enough to become something new and delicious, Chicken Parmesan. As Americans continue to be creative with their food, the Chicken Parmesan burger is born.

At first glance, this recipe may lead you to believe that you have a chicken breast or chicken thigh to be made up and slapped between two slices of bread, but really it is a mixture of ground chicken, marinara, and some spices that goes into making a patty to be cooked for this sandwich.

The chicken can be served on pretzel buns, which is what we did, but you could also pair it with ciabatta bread, which is an incredibly delicious choice. Coat the flavorful chicken with some more marinara sauce before you put the bun on it. Everyone who tasted the dish loved the choice of pretzel bun, but Jeff seemed really excited about the prospect of having it on ciabatta bread instead.

Add some fresh basil to enhance the aesthetic appeal of this dish and make it Instagram worthy with the bright contrast between the red marinara sauce and the bright green of the leaves. Put your sandwich next to a generous serving fresh homemade pasta and you have got yourself some food art that is borderline Museum of Modern Art material.
