Sweet Citrus Basil Spritzer

Sweet Citrus Basil Spritzer
Sweet Citrus Basil Spritzer

Like any good spritzer, this drink is refreshing, flavorful, and fun. It’s the perfect way to beat the heat in the warm summer months, with bright citrus and herb flavors and a surprisingly snappy hint of celery. We made this as an anytime, family friendly mocktail, but it would also be delicious as an adult beverage with a splash of vodka, gin, or tequila.

To season this drink we made a simple syrup, which doesn’t require a pot or pan to make and can be heated in the microwave. The unused syrup can be stored in your refrigerator for about a month, and can be used in a wide range of recipes, including Sweet Citrus Basil Mini Pavlovas.

Cuisine: American
Ingredients:

1 cup water
3/4 cup Granulated Honey
1/4 cup Sweet Citrus Basil Seasoning
2 small lemon wedges, divided
1 large sprig fresh basil, plus more to garnish
1 Tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1 can grapefruit seltzer

Instructions:

1. Make simple syrup. Combine water, Granulated Honey, and Sweet Citrus Seasoning in a small pot or a microwave-safe bowl. Heat until all the sugar is dissolved and remove from heat. Let sit for one hour, then strain out solids through a double layer of cheese cloth. Set aside.

2. To make the drink, muddle one lemon wedge and basil sprig together in a serving glass. Fill about half way with ice, then add 1 Tablespoon Sweet Citrus Basil simple syrup, fresh lemon juice, and grapefruit seltzer. Stir gently to combine, and add more ice or seltzer if necessary. Garnish with additional basil sprig and the second lemon wedge.
