Espresso Rub
Espresso Rub
Our Espresso Rub offers the perfect balance of warm, sweet and spicy elements which create layers of flavors. The deep richness of coffee combines with brown sugar to create a caramelized crust on your steak, sealing in the natural flavors and juices. It is also known as espresso steak rub, espresso spice rub, espresso seasoning, or espresso bbq rub.
We tested many coffee blends and tweaked our Espresso blend over the years before discovering Sumatra Mandheling. This Indonesian coffee is delightfully smooth with a bold, heavy body, and exotic flavor. It provides the backbone for this uniquely rich blend.
Espresso Rub is often purchased by:
- seasoning companies;
- olive oil shops;
- independent spice shops;
- manufacturers of cocktail mixes, jam and dip mixes; and
- American, Mediterranean, and barbecue restaurants
Flavor Profile
Espresso Rub starts with the warm, rich taste of coffee with a hint of sweet brown sugar, followed by the fruitiness of ancho and heat of de arbol chiles.
How To Use
Apply Espresso Rub just 30 minutes to an hour before cooking in order to prevent its bold taste from overpowering the natural flavor of the meat. While we love this seasoning best on a good steak (i.e. T-Bone or Porterhouse), we also enjoy it on ribs, pork loin or a hearty fish like tuna or swordfish. We recommend trying Flat Iron Steak and Carrots with Parsley Pesto for a fresh summer meal. Need a delicious dish for a potluck supper? This Roasted Poblano Potato Salad with Tuna Steak will leave everyone wanting more.
Use one tablespoon per pound of beef or pork for even coverage and flavor distribution.
Use only half a tablespoon per pound if you use this rub on fish or poultry so as not to overpower the milder flavored meat.
