Hill Country Chili Powder
Hill Country Chili Powder
Inspired by the beautiful hills of central Texas, our salt-free, MSG-free Hill Country Chili Powder holds fast to its Tex-Mex roots. A complex blend of chile peppers, herbs, and spices, it’s peppery without being overly hot. It is sometimes referred to as chili powder, Texas chili powder, or spicy powder.
Chili powder was in all likelihood invented in New Braunfels, Texas. William Gebhardt, a German immigrant who had become a fan of Texas foods, sold a form of pulverized dried chiles that he called “Tampico Dust”. It was already established by 1896, when he sold his product to a larger company and launched a spice blend that’s been reinterpreted in hundreds of ways since then.
Hill Country Chili Powder is commonly sought after by independent spice shops; Mexican, Tex-Mex, and American restaurants; olive oil shops; brewers; and food manufacturers.
Flavor Profile
This is a well-balanced and aromatic blend that’s rich, smoky, fruity, and earthy.
How To Use
Hill Country Chili Powder was made to bring life to chilis, so add it to Green Chile Stew made with pork shoulder, Easy Homemade Chili with ground beef, or the sweet and hearty Turkey and Pumpkin Chili. Mix into your hamburger meat and grill up some Chili-Bean Burgers. Toss with black beans for Black Bean Stuffed Peppers. Enjoy it in multiple ways with sweet potatoes; you can coat thick slices and roast them for a Spiced Sweet Potato Sandwich with Feta, or cut them into wedges and make Sweet Potato Chili Fries. Rub over ribs or brisket; this seasoning blend can withstand long cooking times. Use to make a savory-spicy rice cereal party snack, or make Spiced Pecans. You can even mix a pinch in with your favorite hot chocolate for a spicy treat.
