Madras Curry Powder, also known as Madras-style curry or Madras yellow curry powder, is a salt- and MSG-free classic curry powder.

This seasoning takes its name from the former state of Madras, now known as Chennai, located on the southern tip of the Indian subcontinent.

Madras Curry Powder is popular with seasoning companies; independent spice shops; butchers; and caterers. It is also frequently bought by American and African restaurants; cafes and brewpubs; and manufacturers of baking mixes and seasoned salts.

Flavor Profile

Madras Curry Powder is fragrant, floral, warm, and earthy, with pops of heat and citrus top notes.

How To Use

Madras Curry Powder is used to make rich, velvety Butter Chicken, or select it to make Butter Cauliflower Burritos. It is equally at home in Coconut Fish Curry. Substitute Madras Curry Powder when making Quick and Easy Vegetable Curry and serve over rice for a bold and spicy vegetarian meal. Also try Madras Curry Powder as the primary seasoning when making Roasted Carrot Soup. It can be added to chicken stew and carrot salad, or it can be mixed with mayonnaise to make a dressing for a curried potato salad.

Madras Curry Powder is great for cooking roasted vegetables as well as meat. Use it as an ingredient in a dry rub, for barbecued meats, in a marinade, or in soups and stews. Sprinkle over mashed potatoes or eggs to add heat and flavor. This versatile spice blend will add depth, flavor, and heat to any dish.
