Japanese BBQ Seasoning
Japanese BBQ Seasoning
Japanese BBQ Seasoning is an earthy, tangy seasoning blend that offers a harmonious blend of sweet, savory, and umami. It is also called Japanese barbeque seasoning, Japanese BBQ rub, or Japanese BBQ spice mix.
Barbecue is a relatively new style of Japanese cooking that emerged after the end of WWII, as Japan opened up to the west. Pure, traditional Japanese cooking features mild sauces with simple flavors, but thanks to influences from the US and Korea, there is a fusion approach to Japanese BBQ that’s developed around flavors that are a little bit more spicy, funky, and playful.
Our Japanese BBQ Seasoning is appropriate for:
- seasoning companies;
- Asian-fusion, BBQ, and bar & grill-style restaurants;
- independent spice shops;
- and chip, snack, sauce, and jerky manufacturers
Flavor Profile
Japanese BBQ Seasoning is sweet, earthy, fruity, and packed with umami flavors. It has just enough heat to make itself known without being overly assertive.
How To Use
We used our Japanese BBQ Seasoning to make Japanese BBQ Sauce, which we used for drizzling and dipping with our Savory Japanese BBQ Pancake, or okonomiyake. We mixed Japanese BBQ Seasoning into ground chicken and made Tsukune, grilled chicken meatballs. It would be terrific as a rub for BBQ Tofu Skewers, and would also beautifully season some Low & Slow Oven-Baked Ribs.
Japanese BBQ Seasoning goes well with chicken, tofu, pork, eggs, and rice. Add to roasted or grilled meats and vegetables, sauces, marinades, dressings, or noodles.
