Rose Harissa Puffed Rice Treats

Rose Harissa Puffed Rice Treats
Rose Harissa Puffed Rice Treats

There are few recipes that are more of an American classic than puffed rice cereal treats. Made with your favorite puffed rice breakfast cereal, these beloved snacks are sweet, chewy, and crunchy. They have only lacked in one thing—a savory, spicy note. Until now.

The sweet, fragrant top notes of rose go beautifully with the gentle sweetness of marshmallow, while the earthy flavor and touch of spice give the rice extra depth. Drizzle some white chocolate on top for even more creamy contrast. And keep it fun; pink and purple colored sugar mixed throughout the treats give extra sparkle and remind us all that sometimes, it’s really rewarding to play with your food.

Ingredients:

Cooking spray
3 Tablespoons unsalted butter
1 package (10 ounces) marshmallows
6 cups puffed rice cereal
1 Tablespoon Rose Harissa
1-2 Tablespoons colored sugar
1/2 cup white chocolate chips
1/4 cup milk or half and half
2 Tablespoons powdered sugar

Instructions:

1. Coat a 9x13x2 inch pan with cooking spray. Set aside.

2. Put butter in a large saucepan and melt over low to medium-low heat. Add marshmallows and stir with a silicone spatula until completely melted. Remove from heat.

3. Add puffed rice cereal to melted marshmallows and start to stir. Add Rose Harissa and colored sugar. Continue stirring until ingredients are evenly mixed. Taste a bit, and adjust seasonings as needed.

4. Pour into your prepared baking pan. Using the spatula and more cooking spray as necessary, press puff rice mixture until it’s spread evenly across the pan. Allow the treats to cool down and become set before cutting, about 15 minutes.

5. While the treats cool down, make the white chocolate glaze. Put white chocolate chips and milk into a saucepan and melt the chips, over a low flame. Stir in powdered sugar until fully incorporated. Keep warm until ready to use.

6. When treats are cool, cut into squares or use a cookie cutter sprayed with cooking spray to cut fun shapes. Drizzle with warm chocolate glaze, and additional colored sugar, rose petals, or pink peppercorns, if desired. Enjoy!
