Lebanese 7 Spice is a salt-free, MSG-free seasoning blend. It may also be called seven spice blend, seven spices, 7 spices, 7 spices blend, Lebanese spices or seven spice seasoning. In Arabic it’s called sabaa baharat, which literally translates to mean seven spices.

Lebanon is located on the eastern edge of the Mediterranean Sea and is at a culinary and cultural crossroad. Some of the foods there have roots that reach back thousands of years and exhibit Phoenician, Babylonian, and Byzantine characteristics, along with more modern influences.

Businesses that frequently purchase Lebanese 7 Spice are:

  • Mediterranean and Middle Eastern restaurants;
  • caterers;
  • olive oil shops;
  • independent spice shops; and
  • companies that manufacture bloody Mary mixes, cocktail mixes and dip mixes

Flavor Profile

 Lebanese 7 Spice seasoning blend is aromatic, sweet, and woodsy, and has hints of citrus and maple syrup and peppery undertones.

How To Use

Lebanese 7 Spice powder is a versatile blend that can go on a wide variety of dishes. Blend with rice and onions for the wrapped grape leaf dish, Dolmeh. Toss over eggplant and roast when making Sabich-Eggplant Sandwiches. Pair with ground lamb or beef and mix into Middle Eastern-style Meatballs or an egg roll-esque Egyptian Sambousek. It’s a convenient shortcut you can use when making a pot of Cincinnati-style Skyline Chili. Or, add to the mix when making Kalamata Olive Pizza for an extra dose of aroma and flavor.

Lebanese 7 Spice goes well with beef, chicken, pork, tofu, beans, some fish, and lamb, vegetables like eggplant, onions, and sweet winter squashes, greens, rice, olives, cheese, zucchini, and dried fruits. Perfect for soups, stews, marinades, relishes, and dressings.

Lebanese 7 spice I absolutely love it. I try every new spice on potato salad to get kind of a neutral taste test and WOW, this is good stuff which, by the way, I WILL use on potato salad and veggies such as carrots and squash. It's truly delicious.

New Spices: easiest way to supercharge old dishes We are all captive to old cooking habits. Without changing basic ingredients or methods, I’ve reinvented my old dishes by simply adding new spice combinations from other cultures. When I first added Lebanese 7 Spice to the traditional spices I used for meat loaf, stews, stir-frys, roasts, even steaks on the grill, it added a whole layer of aromatic overtones I never thought existed. That experiment gave me the courage to try other spice combinations I’ve never heard of or used. I now realize how simple it can be to supercharge traditional dishes without changing my basic cooking habits.

A missed opportunity, but not for me 1974s The Man With The Golden Gun is by no means the best Bond movie ever made, it probably doesn't even crack top five, and now I know why. A good portion of the movie takes place in Beirut, and while there is plenty of intrigue and espionage, not once do they mention Lebanese seven spice, I know because I checked. They had plenty of opportunities to casually mention the plethora of flavors that could have danced across my tastebuds, but instead they focused on trivial inconsequential plots, involving hitmen, and gadgets and spies. That's all fine and well, but seriously, the most important thing in Beirut has to be this spice. Lebanese seven spice - 5 Stars. The Man With The Golden Gun - 2 stars, because they should have mentioned this spice.
