Organic Tuscany Bread Dipping Seasoning
Organic Tuscany Bread Dipping Seasoning
Organic Tuscany Bread Dipping Seasoning is an MSG-free seasoning blend that was developed to reflect the flavors of that region. It is the organic version of our conventional Tuscany Bread Dipping Seasoning, a popular blend that is a favorite with businesses, home chefs, and even our own staff.
We also offer a conventional Tuscany Bread Dipping Seasoning, and a conventional Mild Tuscany Bread Dipping Seasoning, from which we've removed the red pepper flakes and replaced them with sundried tomato.
The Story of Our Organic Tuscany Blend
The Tuscany region of Italy, which has a reputation for beautiful art and an even bigger reputation for delicious bread, is home to some of the most flavorful food in the world. Italian meals tend to have a few courses, and bread is a typical appetizer. This is especially true in Tuscany. Here la dolce far niente, or the sweetness of doing nothing, is celebrated with good food and good wine. Lingering on a meal's flavors is one of the best parts of eating in this region, because unlike typical Americans, people from Tuscany enjoy a long, drawn out dinner. The foods of Tuscany are thought to be some of the healthiest and the least fatty of Italy. Unlike Americans who slather butter all over their bread, Italians prefer to spread olive oil over fresh bread which is either plain or seasoned with a menagerie of spices.
This bread dipping seasoning has all the classic Italian herbs, like rosemary and basil, but it also has the spicy, yet still classically Italian, red pepper flakes. We wanted to create an organic version of our most popular bread dipping seasoning blend and with our vast inventory of organic products, we were able to achieve this. This blend is zesty, savory, garlicky, and perfect for imagining what Italy might taste like, especially if you've never been.
What's in it?
Our Organic Tuscany is made from Coarse Sea Salt, Organic Garlic, Organic Black Pepper, Organic Onion, Organic Red Pepper Flakes, Organic Rosemary, Organic Basil, Organic Oregano, and Organic Parsley.
Flavor Profile
This blend tastes very garlicky in the beginning with a salty, herby background. You will notice a tiny bit of heat from the red pepper flakes after.
Where to Use it
You can use this blend to make a beautiful dipping oil. Combine a half cup of olive oil and three tablespoons or so of this blend together and allow the mixture to sit for 20 to 30 minutes before enjoying with some fresh bread. This is enough dip for about two or three people to enjoy, so scale back or up depending on how many people are snacking. If you think the flavor of the dip is too intense, add some more oil to dilute it. Alternatively, if you think that there isn't enough flavor, add more Tuscany!
For a quick salad dressing or marinade for pork, chicken, or fish, combine 3 tablespoons of the bread dipping seasoning with 2/3 cups of olive oil and 1/3 cup red wine vinegar. This bright, fragrant dressing will liven up a boring salad. Throw some croutons on top for some extra texture and flavor.
Some recipes that use this blend as a seasoning instead of a marinade or dipping sauce are Caprese Salad, Tuscan Style Roasted Carrots, and Mediterranean Pitas.
