Adobo Seasoning is a salt-free seasoning blend found in many Latin and Caribbean kitchens. It is generally rubbed or sprinkled on seafood and meat before grilling or frying. Adobo Seasoning is also referred to as salt-free adobo seasoning, adobo powder and adobo spice.

Adobo can be used to describe a marinade or seasoning mix. Adobo has a long and complex history. It originated both as a marinade and as a seasoning in Spain—the word adobo comes from the Spanish word adobar, “to dress” or “to prepare”. As the Spanish embarked on their age of conquest they took adobo with them, and was eventually incorporated into regional cuisines. Various versions of adobo can be found through the Caribbean, Latin America, and even the Philippines, all reflecting local preferences and ingredients. Our salt-free Adobo Seasoning has a Mexican twist with the addition of chile peppers, but it is still clearly a relative of classic Puerto Rican or Filipino adobo.

Adobo Seasoning It is a favorite of:

  • seasoning companies;
  • independent spice shops; and
  • food manufacturers

We also have a salt-free Organic Adobo Seasoning available.

Flavor Profile

Adobo Seasoning is earthy, aromatic, and complex, with citrus and pepper top notes and moderate chili heat.

How To Use

While chicken and pork are the two most common types of meat used in adobo-seasoned recipes, Adobo seasoning can also be used to season chili meat (beef, chicken or turkey), guacamole, black beans, red beans or tacos. Bring the flavor of the Caribbean to your kitchen with these Empanadillas.  Add spice to your grilled Carne Asada or Zesty Grilled Jalapeno Chicken. Need chipotles in adobo for a recipe? Our Chipotle Adobo Sauce is a super easy DIY that replaces the canned sauce. No need to forget the vegetables – these Sweet Potato Chili Fries and Easy Borracho Beans will light up your dinner table. Use Adobo Seasoning in dips, seasoned peanuts, peanut brittle, and peanut butter.
