Tangerine Hibiscus Rub, also called hibiscus rub, tangerine spice or hibiscus seasoning, is a salt-free and MSG-free seasoning blend. It combines the fruity flavor of sweet tangerine with the tart, cranberry-like flavor of hibiscus, perked up with a little bit of heat.

This is a surprisingly versatile blend; it’s not too tart, it’s not too spicy, and delivers sweet, citrusy flavor.

Businesses that frequently purchase Tangerine Hibiscus Rub are Mexican restaurants; gastro pubs; food trucks; B&Bs and hotels; seasoning companies; independent spice shops; and honey, tea, coffees, and bitter syrup manufacturers.

Flavor Profile

Tangerine Hibiscus Rub is predominantly sweet and sour with notes of citrus, raisin, and pepper.

How To Use

Put salt-free Tangerine Hibiscus Rub on grilled chicken or fish, like these Grilled Tangerine Hibiscus Mahi Mahi Tacos with Chile-lime Mango Slaw.  Dust over Quick and Easy Grilled Shrimp for simple, flavorful skewers, or toss over cubed chicken breast for a tropical twist on Asian-style Chicken Lettuce Wraps. Use it instead of Thai seasoning for aromatic Coconut Soup. It’s wonderful on vegetables, so use it when making Grilled Asparagus or in the dressing for a Zoodle Salad.

Make a tropical appetizer by dusting on fresh jicama. Mix with a touch of sugar and rim a glass for a sweet and spicy margarita.

Will be running it with Will be running it with Tuna for January Specials. It also went very well with scallops. The free sample of smoked citrus salt was also a very cool ingrediant.

Exotic and delightful! I am enjoying the amazing flavors in this blend. They come together, but also surprise your tongue with micro bursts of tartness, floral sweetness, and (very) mild heat. Wonderful in paella, or as a rub for blackened fish. Think I'll sprinkle some next time I cook a light fish (fluke, flounder) in evoo and a bit of butter. Thank you, Spices Inc!

Best rub for ribs... Besides using it on ribs, I rub it on lamb and pork chops too. I've even used it on chicken. Great flavor without being too spicy hot.

Coho salmon filet with Tangerine Hibiscus Rub Rinse the coho fillets, pat dry, and rub flesh side well -- do not skimp on the rub. Grill the fillets and halved fresh tangerines. A really delightful meal.

tangerine hibiscus rub I smoked up a couple racks of ribs with the rub. I did season it with salt. I used charcoal to start the lilac and oak wood. I thought that the lilac would bring out the floral notes of the hibiscus. I added some orange zest and soy sauce to accent the tangerine. They were great!

Smoked Salmon Surprise I bought this specifically for friends who only eat chicken and fish. Normally I mix some hot pepper in with the dry brine but I felt that this was too delicate to survive. So, after washing off the dry brine I sprinkled the rub over the salmon and let it sit for two hours. After smoking, the salmon ended up with a crispy crust that everyone declared to be the best smoked salmon ever.
