Chili Crisp
Chili Crisp
Chili Crisp is a spicy, sweet, nutty, and salty blend of spices combined to provide heat and flavor, particularly when it’s infused with an oil base. It is also called chili crunch, chili oil, or chili sauce.
While spice-infused oils have been part of the Asian kitchen for centuries, today’s version of chili crisp started in the Guizhou province of China in 1997. Most restaurants in China make some version of chili crisp to serve to their customers. One enterprising restaurateur began packaging the chili sauce she made for her restaurant; these jarred sauces soon made their way into kitchens across China. By the end of the 2010s, chili crisps had become popular in the US, but they achieved almost iconic status with the increase in home cooking during the coronavirus pandemic.
Our Chili Crisp is blended in-house, in small batches, to provide our customers with the freshest seasonings possible.
Flavor Profile
The heat comes first in our Chili Crisp, followed by the aromatic depth of shallots and garlic. It delivers crunch with a bit of nutty sesame and coarse salt and has a bit of citrus and sweetness for balance.
How To Use
Chili Crisp can go nearly anywhere you want a burst of heat and flavor. Make some Homemade Chili Crisp and splash it over any vegetable you can imagine, from Roasted Butternut Squash to Grilled Broccoli. Add some heat to your garnish of Honey Sesame Shrimp, or add some extra sizzle to Sichuan Pepper and Beef Stir Fry. Add astonishing contrast by drizzling over Thai Coconut Ice Cream, or enjoy a little sweet heat with Chili Crisp Peanut Brittle. Or, take the Chili Crisp without the oil and stir it into cream cheese for a terrific bagel spread. Make a Compound Butter with Chili Crisp and add a bit of heat to your baked potatoes. The possibilities are wide open with this versatile blend!
