Campfire Skillet Mac & Cheese

Campfire Skillet Mac & Cheese
Campfire Skillet Mac & Cheese

This dish has it all. It’s creamy, it’s cozy, it’s got some spiciness, it’s a little bit crunchy, it’s got the snap of a well-cooked sausage, and presents a well-rounded savory profile. And if you have the sausage links ready to go, it comes together really easily. We avoided putting additional salt in this dish because cheddar cheese, Campfire Sausage Seasoning, and Yellow Mustard Marinade are already salty, but you should certainly add more to the mac and cheese once it's mixed, if you feel that it's necessary.

If sausage stuffing isn’t your thing, you can make loosely formed sausage patties by mixing 1 pound of ground pork with 1-2 Tablespoons Campfire Sausage Seasoning, shaping them into patties, and cooking them for 4-5 minutes per side, or until they are done. Then arrange them along the bottom of the skillet before putting the pan in the oven for browning.

Prep Time: 30 min.
Cooking Time: 10 min.
Servings: 4
Cooking Method: Stovetop
Cuisine: American
Ingredients:

16 ounces dried elbow macaroni or another small pasta
2 Tablespoons unsalted butter
2 Tablespoons all-purpose flour

2 cups milk
2 Tablespoons Yellow Mustard Marinade
2 cups finely grated sharp cheddar cheese
1/2 cups bread crumbs
1 teaspoon Campfire Sausage Seasoning

4 links of Campfire Stuffed Sausage

Instructions:

1. Bring a pot of well-salted water to boil. Cook pasta until it is al dente. Do not overcook.

2. Drain pasta. Set colander with pasta to the side, and return the cooking pot to the stove.

3. Melt butter over medium heat.

4. Whisk flour into butter until it’s fully incorporated. Don’t let it start to turn brown.

5. Slowly pour in milk, stirring continuously to prevent lumps.

6. Add Yellow Mustard Marinade and bring sauce to a simmer. Cook, stirring, for 1 to 2 minutes, or until evenly combined and milk begins to thicken slightly.

7. Remove from heat and stir in grated cheese until combined.

8. Add drained pasta, stir to evenly coat.

9. Prepare broiler for use.

10. Combine bread crumbs and Campfire Sausage Seasoning.

11. Put 1/4 of the mac and cheese mixture into a personal-size cast iron skillet or oven-safe casserole.

12. Add seasoned bread crumbs evenly over the mac and cheese. Tuck one link of Campfire Stuffed Sausage along the side of the personal cast iron skillet.

13. Broil for 3-5 minutes, until bread crumbs are toasted.
